Happy Full Moon Everyone!
I hope you have all had a wonderful weekend, and had a chance to dance under the moon. The full moon falls on a Monday this month, but weekends typically mean we have a bit more time to spend on ourselves and when the moon “appears” full over a weekend that is a bonus!
This is a time to charge, cleanse, collect water, garden, forage and of course some magic and rituals. This full moon ritual like most requires the use of the elements, earth, air, fire and water. It starts with a grounding, meditation, anointing and finishes with a mediation and offering.
You will need:
- a bowl
- live water, if you don’t have that available. Tap water is fine.
- rocks, leaves, branches, salt (earth element)
- feathers or your breath (air element)
- candle, inscribe it with your name(fire element)
Attach the candle to the bottom of your bowl, melt the bottom of your candle really well to get a good pool of wax. Adhere the candle and let it dry for 10 minutes. If you are using rocks, you can also surround the candle with the rocks for extra stability.
Slowly add the water and feather. If you are using your breath for the air element, before you light your candle breath onto the bowl deeply. Almost like you are saying a long slow ” haaaaaaaaaaa” Light your candle, and start your grounding. You can do this by standing or lying flat on your back. Take as little or as long as you like.
Once you are done, sit in front of your candle while it burns and begin your meditation by allowing the elements to manifest in your minds eye. Pay attention to any messages you may receive, what you are feeling and your energy. Fill yourself up with moon light so in your minds eye you are glowing. You can take as little or as long as you like.
Start anointing yourself with the water, you can choose whatever words you feel are right. But as you do it, speak to each of the elements. Start anointing your forehead, back of your neck, chest, palms, front of hands, pubic bone, tops of feet and finally the bottom of your feet. Finish with a light meditation, giving thanks, be grateful to the moon and elements. You can now take the remainder of that water and give it back to the earth. Keep the candle and use that one every time you do this particular ritual.
Whether you do this outside or inside, doesn’t matter. Just be present in that moment no matter how fast or slow you work through this. I typically take about 30 mins for this.
